6. Kimberley Queen Fern (Nephrolepis obliterata)

The Kimberly Queen fern is also known as the Australian sword fern.


This plant cleans formaldehyde and xylene from air. It releases an abundant amount of

moisture into the air.


It prefers bright but indirect sunlight.


The Kimberley Queen Fern is sensitive to both too little and too much water, allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Water regularly to reduce leaf drop.


Kimberley fern looks similar to Boston fern, the Kimberley has large fronds and upright sword-shaped leaves. It is more compact, tidier and easier to care than Boston fern.


The plant is most often grown in a hanging basket or as a potted plants.

The Pot Mum is often brought as a present at Christmas, Easter or Mothering Sunday. In some places, this plant is given to the mother shortly after she has given birth, a symbolism of motherhood.


The Plant likes a bright, full-sun to semi-sun lightings. Avoid sun at noon as the heat may age the blossoms prematurely.


Allow the soil to dry in between watering. To encourage buds to open, place the plant near a window where it can receive direct sunlight. Keep them away from night lighting, as this disturbs their flowering cycle.

Gerbera Daisy filters benzene and trichloroethylene from air and releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide at night. Hence this bright, flowering plant is a good plant to be kept in your living room and bedroom.


It prefers bright light and a well drained soil. The plant blooms from mid-spring to fall.


Water regularly to keep the soil moist while they bloom. After blooming for the season, allow them to dry out slightly.


Remove dead blooms to encourage new buds.


9. Areca Palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens)

Areca plam is also called the yellow butterfly palm, bamboo palm and golden cane palm. It is the most efficient air purifying plant. It eliminates benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, etc. from air.


The plant needs bright light, but not direct sunlight.


It prefers a humid room. This plant is a heavy feeder. It can be attacked by several leaf-spotting fungi.

The Dracaena plants remove benzene, formaldehyde, xylene and toluene from the air. Typically, the Dragen tree purifies the air from benzene, formaldahyde, xylene and other household chemicals.


All vaieties of Dracaena plants like Dragon Tree (Dracaena marginata), Warneck dracaena (Dracaena deremensis 'Warneckii'), Janet Craig dracaena (Dracaena deremensis 'Janet Craig'), Happy Plant (Dracaena fragans 'Massangeana'), Corn Plant (Dracaena fragrans cornstalk) and Limelight dracaena deremensis are efficient in air cleaning.

There is a dracaena plant for every room light situation. The Dracaena plants are popular plants for offices & homes because of their easy care and wide variety of light tolerance.


Corn Plant are best suited to a medium light range of 400– 800 lux. In low light they may lose their leaves and in extreme light they can sun bleach.


Dragon Tree requires moderate to low light levels. However, this plant can withstand lower light levels than some of the other Dracaena plants.


Dracaena Janet Craig does best in a medium to bright light place.

Warneck dracaena needs a brighter area (medium-high light 600 plus lux), however, if placed in low light, new leaves will narrow while in too much light, the leaves may become bleached.


Happy Plants prefer partial shade. Direct sunlight will burn the leaves and cause them to dry out.


'Limelight' Dracaena in a low-light location will help maintain its lime colouring.


The dracaena group of houseplants offers selections in all shapes, sizes, and colors. the tall plant can be placed in room corner, while the Limelight dracaena may brighten up a dark spot.


While Warneckei grows slowly, Janet Craig grows quickly. These plants tolerate dry soil and irregular watering and require little attention.
